Humberside Alumni Choir Presents – We Need a Little Christmas

In October 2017, Humberside Collegiate celebrated its 125^th anniversary. As part of the celebrations, Humberside alumni participated in a choir performance conducted by Janet Keele, the long-time head of the Humberside music department. Everyone had so much fun, the ‘alumni choir’ got together again the next year for a repeat performance.

Then, in 2019, the choir performed a gala Christmas concert at the end of November in HCI’s Lismer Hall. The event was organized by the Alumni Concert Committee together with The Humberside Music Council, Music Department, Stage Crew and Caretaking Staff. A total of approximately 125 alumni (sopranos, altos, tenors and basses) participated in the choir and attended weekly rehearsals beginning in mid-October to prepare for the concert.

Ingrid Smith and her daughter Renee Proulx (of the Smith Proulx Real Estate Team) both sang as altos in the choir. Both Ingrid and Renee were students at Humberside, and both had Janet Keele as their music teacher!

The choir was conducted (of course) by Janet Keele and accompanied on the piano by the talented Becky Windhager. The choir sang a 16 Christmas songs, and led an audience sing-along to another 12 well-known carols. Click HERE to see the concert program.

It was standing-room-only in Lismer Hall and a very memorable experience for all.

The Alumni Choir Christmas concert would almost certainly have continued in 2020 and 2021, except of course for Covid-19. Hopefully there will be an opportunity to revive the event once the pandemic is behind us.

The concert concluded with everyone singing the Humberside school song, followed by the roof-raising school cheer:
